Mathys Tel has made the decision to stay at Bayern Munich amid interest from Manchester United.

Earlier this month, Tel informed Bayern of his decision to leave after struggling to settle since Vincent Kompany was appointed as their new head coach last summer. In fact, Tel has failed to score in 15 appearances across all competitions this season, though he has started just four matches.

Tottenham had appeared to be the frontrunners for Tel and placed a £50million bid to sign him in the January window. However, Tel rejected a move to north London and has since appeared to make a U-turn on his future. The Athletic report that Tel is now set to stay at Bayern this month.

It’s added that Tel is expected to reassess his future in the summer. United could reignite their interest in Tel at the end of the season as Amorim tries to add to his squad.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa were among the others that were keen on signing the talented France Under 21s international. Meanwhile, having seen their approach to sign Tel turned down, Tottenham have made a surprise late enquiry to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, according to the Daily Mail.

Spurs have reportedly acted to pursue a late January deal for the 20-year-old Argentine, who could leave United for around £60m. It’s unclear, at this stage, whether Garnacho would be keen to make the move to Tottenham.

He came on for the second half during United’s 2-0 win over RCSB in the Europa League on Thursday. Elsewhere, Patrick Dorgu was included in the Lecce squad for Friday’s relegation six-pointer against Parma, despite ongoing speculation around his proposed move to Manchester United.
