Man United hand Chelsea huge transfer twist with move for David De Gea successor

June 16, 2023

Chelsea look set to cross paths with Premier League rivals Manchester United in the transfer window this summer, in more than one capacity. The two sides have already been in discussions surrounding a deal between themselves as the Red Devils look to make a move for Mason Mount.

Reports claim that an opening £40million bid was made by United, in hopes of tempting a switch for the England international, who has just one-year remaining on his contract. That has been rejected, with a huge £70million valuation set on Mount, with the negotiation process firmly underway.

It remains to be seen whether the two teams will reach an agreement for the 24-year-old, but that may not be the only flash point between them in the market this summer. Both sides appear to be in the market for a striker to help their goal scoring exploits, which may lead to an overlap in targets.

There’s also the goalkeeping department, where Chelsea are set to undergo a potential overhaul as Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga both near the final two-years of their contracts. With one, if not the pair, set to leave as a result, the Blues look set to make a signing in that position.

football.london understands that the Blues hold interest in Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana, with the west London outfit holding talks with the Nerazzurri about a host of players. However, the Cameroon international is also on the radar of Man United this summer.

That’s according to the Guardian, which claims that the Red Devils are looking at options that could challenge current number one David De Gea if he signs a new contract at the club or replace him if he were to leave. The Spaniard has come under fire for his performances over the campaign with individual errors, despite winning the Golden Glove award.

The report claims that United’s interest in Onana could cause some problems for Chelsea, mainly being that he would prefer a move to Manchester. It remains to be seen whether either team will step up their interest in the 27-year-old, who impressed in his Champions League final display for Inter earlier this month.
