Luis Enrique becomes a problem for Barcelona with three players on his wishlist

May 10, 2024

Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain are expected to pose a big challenge for Xavi and Barcelona during the summer transfer market.

Since the Ligue 1 team is expected to lose Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, they are expected to reinforce their attack and if a report from SPORT is to be believed, most of the players Enrique is targeting happen to be in Barcelona’s orbit.

It is no secret that Barcelona want to enter the summer transfer market ready to strengthen the team. Most of the preparation is already in place since the team knows which players it wants and has had direct conversations to see which deals are possible.

Xavi has spoken with players like Martin Zubimendi and Joshua Kimmich, but the club’s fragile finances are holding back any progress.

Barcelona have more players on agenda

Meanwhile, the players Deco’s sports management team has in mind include Bernardo Silva, Xavi Simons, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

These players fit Xavi’s requirements for bringing in new talent. Silva, in particular, has been a long-time target of the club, and there is widespread agreement about signing him.

Silva is also keen on joining Barcelona, but the club can’t commit until it manages potential departures and aligns with La Liga’s Fair Play rules.

Simons has the option to go out on loan wherever he wants without needing PSG’s approval, while Kvaratskhelia is in ongoing negotiations with Napoli regarding his contract extension.

What kind of problem PSG are presenting?

These three players are highly sought after, and Barcelona aren’t the only team interested in signing them.

According to the outlet, PSG are also in the mix. Simons’ situation is unique as he is currently on loan from PSG to RB Leipzig.

Enrique will need to convince Simons that he has a key role to play in PSG next season to prevent him from using his option to go on loan elsewhere.

Enrique is also interested in Silva, as PSG have substantial financial resources and face few restrictions from Ligue 1 or UEFA.

Meanwhile, Barcelona can’t make any promises, creating a significant hurdle that can only be overcome if the player is willing to wait. Knowing Napoli are struggling with his contract renewal, Kvaratskhelia is also on Enrique’s radar.
