Lucas Hernandez Compares Manuel Ugarte to Former Chelsea Star
The 2023-24 season is a few games in for Paris Saint-Germain. However, one new arrival that’s quickly standing out is Manuel Ugarte. Paris Saint-Germain supporters have been treated to a player with a pitbull mentality to recover the ball and begin the transition to attack.
Ugarte showed he could also contribute to the attack in the 4-1 win over Olympique Lyonnais on Saturday at Groupama Stadium. The 22-year-old sprung Marco Asensio for PSG’s third goal.
After the win and heading into the international break, Lucas Hernandez discussed what Ugarte brings to the squad and midfield. The left-back noted that the Uruguayan reminds him of former Chelsea and France international N’Golo Kanté.
“[PSG] recruited us for this,” Hernandez told the French media outlet. “Personally, Ugarte, I did not know him. He surprised me. When I see him play, he reminds me of N’Golo Kanté. Even me, who is a player of this style, when I see him, it makes you want to do the same.”
The Blues were likely in on the former Sporting CP player to replace Kanté, who left for Saudi Arabia. As for PSG, they have long searched for a player to replace Thiago Motta and finally have it in Ugarte.
