Liverpool’s strongest line-up may rarely ever appear together because of Jurgen Klopp rule

February 7, 2024

Liverpool strongest XI picked by our writers as Jurgen Klopp’s options strengthened

Liverpool have been left reeling from just their second Premier League defeat of the season.

The Reds lost 3-1 at Arsenal to leave a dent in their title hopes and Jurgen Klopp’s side will hope to recover quickly as they face a crucial month ahead with a chance to get back on track in the league, as well as progress in the FA Cup and pick up their first silverware of the season when they face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.

And they’ll hope to be soon bolstered with the return of Mohamed Salah from a hamstring injury, as well as Dominik Szoboszlai from a similar problem. In fact, Klopp’s squad is getting stronger with Wataru Endo also returning from the Asia Cup and Thiago Alcantara fit again for the first time in a year.

But what is Liverpool’s strongest team when everyone is fit and available? Our writers have their say.

Ian Doyle: Throughout Jurgen Klopp’s reign, the Liverpool boss has always employed a horses-for-courses approach. What suits one game may not particularly suit another.

Take arguably the three biggest games of his reign – the Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona in 2019, the final against Tottenham Hotspur and, later that same year, the Club World Cup triumph over Flamengo. The starting line-ups for those three games were the only time the chosen XI began a game together.
