Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of Alexis Mac Allister after the midfielder appeared to sustain a muscle injury during Argentina’s match against Chile.

The 25-year-old was replaced in the second half of Argentina’s 3-0 win on Thursday night and looked to be in some discomfort. Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni was unable to enlighten reporters with a meaningful update on Mac Allister after the match, either.

Losing Mac Allister for a period would be another blow for Arne Slot after Harvey Elliott was sent home from the latest England Under-21 camp for “further medical assessment” at Anfield.
