Liverpool brace for worst case Dominik Szoboszlai and Ibrahima Konate scenario before Arsenal

October 23, 2024

The latest Liverpool news as both players were cautioned in the 2-1 Premier League win over Chelsea at the weekend.

Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai were booked during the win over Chelsea.

Both Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai will have to tread carefully for the next 11 Liverpool games to avoid being handed a suspension. The duo were booked in the 2-1 win over Chelsea at the weekend.

It takes Konate and Szoboszlai to three yellow cards each for the season so far. Premier League rules mean that five bookings for any player in the first 19 games of the campaign will result in a one-match ban.

Both players will therefore have to be careful over the next 11 games to avoid suspension. Two more cautions for either player would see them miss the next Premier League outing.

Liverpool’s opponents at the weekend were impacted by the rule with both Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana forced to sit out the game at Anfield. The two players were both booked for the fifth time in the previous outing against Nottingham Forest, therefore they were handed an automatic one-game suspension vs Liverpool.

After a trip to Germany to take on Red Bull Leipzig on Wednesday. Liverpool are back in Premier League action on Sunday when they take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium (4.30pm kick-off).

A win for Liverpool would see them move seven points clear of their title rivals. It would also guarantee the Reds a place at the top of the table for another week.

A caution for Konate and/or Szoboszlai during the game would see them walking an even thinner tightrope for the Premier League encounter against Brighton on 2 November. If they pick up a booking in both games, then the suspension would kick in for the clash against Aston Villa a week later.

Both Konate and Szoboszlai have been regular starters for Arne Slot so far this season. Both have started all but one of the Premier League games in the campaign.
