Lewis O’Brien wants to join Carlos Corberan at West Brom as Middlesbrough also eye Nottingham Forest big-earner

Lewis O’Brien wants to join West Brom as the Baggies attempt to secure a loan move for the Nottingham Forest midfielder

Nixon has reported that O’Brien is keen to reunite with Carlos Corberan at The Hawthorns.

It’s understood there is further Championship interest in the 24-year-old, with Middlesbrough and Blackburn also watching developments.

It’s believed Forest will have the final decision on where the former Huddersfield midfielder ends up come 1 February.

This is a move the Baggies have to try and get over the line. O’Brien was one of the Championship’s standout performers under Corberan at Huddersfield – and the Spaniard’s presence at the club should hopefully give them the edge when it comes to landing the talented midfielder.

A player of his quality would immediately add strength in depth in midfield and provide competition for the Baggies’ first-choice options. It’s been a relatively quiet window for Albion, with one or two loan moves probably the likely outcome.

All of West Brom’s focus will now be on securing a top-six spot after their FA Cup defeat to Bristol City. The performance at Ashton Gate was concerning, but potentially crashing out at the fourth round stage was a good thing.

It will allow for Corberan to keep his squad fresh for their Championship campaign and avoid any of his first-team players becoming fatigued come the end of the season.
