Leeds United squad revealed for Plymouth Argyle with Daniel Farke set to ring the changes
A look at the options Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has at his disposal for today’s FA Cup fourth round meeting with Plymouth Argyle at Elland Road
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke is expected to ring the changes for today’s clash with Plymouth Argyle. Attentions have turned to the FA Cup as the Whites bid book a place in the fifth round.
It is a quick turnaround for United, having beaten Norwich City on Wednesday evening to move to within two points of the Championship automatic promotion slots. Farke has confirmed Archie Gray and Dan James will definitely not be involved due to injury.
But the German has indicated he will rotate his squad for their third match in seven days. Talented winger Wilfried Gnonto is pushing for a start after recovering from a minor hip problem. There could also be recalls for Kristoffer Klaesson, Sam Byram, Jamie Shackleton, Liam Cooper, Ian Poveda, Jaidon Anthony and Joel Piroe.
The first topic is we take this game more than serious,” stressed Farke. “We are deep believers in cup runs. We want to be at our best.
“We want to go through to the next round but we won’t do anything stupid. We know it’s the third game in six days. This turnaround, late kick off on Wednesday and then Saturday afternoon is a bit more tricky.
There will be a few more changes than you’d expect for a league game in such a period. We still want to go with a strong starting XI and go to the next round, stay in our rhythm. Important to find a good balance to win this game, but not doing anything stupid in terms of risking players. Not just because of resting but also because competition in the squad. Recovered players with fresh legs can be more beneficial.”
Centre-back Pascal Struijk (adductor) will miss a further two matches. Farke said: “At the moment he’s still doing injection therapy. Next week the timeframe will become clearer.”
