Leeds United attacker Willy Gnonto would like Serie A move as Atalanta eye summer transfer
Leeds United attacker Willy Gnonto would reportedly like a move to the Serie A as Atalanta are keen on signing him this summer.
According to Il Giorno [23 March], their quest to bring the 19-year-old to Italy hinges on whether or not they can secure Champions League qualification and if they can sell Duvan Zapata, with Everton in the race to sign him.
It’s understood that a move for the Italy international will cost Atalanta around £44million.
Surely not?
While making ten times the initial transfer fee on a player after one season is considered a phenomenal piece of business, Gnoto surely would not want to part ways just yet.
Sure, he would like to play in the Champions League and in his home country in the Serie A which is one of Europe’s top five leagues, but he’s going to develop much better in the Premier League.
The tempo and physicality of the English top flight is second to none and he knows that every game is a hard fought battle and three points are never guaranteed.
He’s already progressed so much compared to the quiet 18-year-old he was when he signed for the club.
However, if he does want to leave and that kind of money is put on the table for Leeds, they may be forced to accept it.
There are still plenty of things that this deal hinges on so nothing’s guaranteed as of now and his focus too will be on keeping Leeds in the Premier League.
