Lawrence Shankland links come after Juventus-linked bluenose got away

April 12, 2023

Rangers are linked with a summer move for Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland – with the bluenose who got away in Lewis Ferguson reportedly a target for Juventus.

Despite Nottingham Forest-linked Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson claiming at a recent AGM that homegrown players were top of the club’s transfer agenda, interest has been sparse.

Indeed, the likes of Aaron Hickey (Bologna), Josh Doig (Verona) and – controversially – Ryan Porteous (Watford) have all been linked and all of them have moved elsewhere.

These are probably the pick of the Premiership talent moving on in recent seasons, with ex-Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson also topping the lot.

Lewis Ferguson now being linked to Juventus
Switching Pittodrie for Bologna in a reported £3m move in the summer, the boyhood bluenose and son of Derek/nephew of Barry is now being touted for a switch to bigger and better things.

Lewis Ferguson is being linked to the likes of Juventus as his Serie A form continues to impress with Rangers fans left scratching their head as to why the club never moved for the combative Aberdeen midfielder.

The fact Ferguson is a bluenose makes a big difference compared to the other names mentioned and the same can be said of prolific – if not at times inconsistent – Scotland striker Lawrence Shankland.

Lawrence Shankland linked to Rangers

Rangers have been repeatedly linked to the striker throughout his career but now there’s a tinge more serious reports in the press claiming Hearts star Lawrence Shankland is a summer Ibrox target.

Whilst filling UEFA quotas are all well and good, it’s been a while since Rangers have had a boyhood bluenose leading the line and with goals hard to come as of late the links are somewhat refreshing.

Perhaps Rangers have also looked at the situation involving Lewis Ferguson and Juventus and are determined to ensure another of the Premiership’s stellar bluenoses doesn’t slip through the net.
