Jürgen Klopp discusses potential return to coaching amid Real Madrid links

January 19, 2026

Jürgen Klopp has reiterated he is not interested in the job as Real Madrid coach that has become vacant following Xabi Alonso’s sacking, insisting he remains happy with his current role as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer.

Since Jürgen Klopp was appointed Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull at the start of 2025, the 58-year-old has consistently been linked with a return to coaching.

Most recently, reports have suggested that Real Madrid see the former Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Mainz head coach as a candidate to take over in the summer following their decision to sack Xabi Alonso just half a year into his tenure and put Álvaro Arbelo in charge on an interim basis.

However, just over a year into his work with Red Bull, Klopp insists he has no plans to return to the dugout.

“As a person, I’m completely at peace with where I am,” Klopp said during a media round in Leipzig that Bulinews.com took part in.

“I don’t want to be somewhere else. I don’t get excited if, whatever, Real Madrid are showing interest. If they would – but it’s just the media.”

Throughout his coaching career, Klopp always decided for himself when it was time to move on.

In his current role, though, he seems to be just getting started.

“I was always happy where I was until I wasn’t. But it took time. I could say I was always happy, and then after four days I could say it’s not great here. But I know myself; I’m consistent, I don’t change my mind overnight – these kinds of things. Things grow,” Klopp explained.
