Jose Mourinho hails Edin Terzic’s approach in the Champions League final

June 3, 2024

Jose Mourinho feels that Edin Terzic did everything right in the UEFA Champions League final even though Borussia Dortmund ended up on the losing side against Real Madrid.

Borussia Dortmund failed in their bid to win the UEFA Champions League title on Saturday evening, as they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid. Despite dominating the game for large periods and creating a host of great chances, the Black and Yellows were punished by an incisive Real Madrid side in the closing stages.

Edin Terzic was visibly distraught after the game, and Jose Mourinho went to console him. The two-time Champions League winner then spoke about what he told Terzic on UK broadcaster TNT Sports.

“As a coach you can’t do more. The coach cannot score. The coach cannot put the ball in the net. The coach can organise. The coach can give mentality. The coach can give confidence and he did all that,” Mourinho said. “The approach was amazing. They were brave. They make a good difference between what is press high and making the block a little bit lower.”

“They did everything well apart from scoring. So as a coach he has to be proud but he’s not going to forget.”

Terzic came ever-so-close to leading Borussia Dortmund to the Bundesliga title last season, and followed that up by leading the team to their first Champions League final appearance since 2013. While the defeat will sting for some time, the 41 year old will be determined to grow from it and lead his beloved club to success in the coming years.

A new contract could also be in the offing for Edin Terzic, with talks set to take place after the start of next season. His current contract with Borussia Dortmund is due to expire at the end of next season.
