Jan-Christian Dreesen stress importance of Bayern Munich reaching Champions League final at the Allianz Arena

December 14, 2024

A shot at the final on home turf is an opportunity Bayern cannot miss out on in the eyes of Dreesen.

The new Champions League format that was introduced for this current season has been met with a mixed bag of reviews, and it has certainly yielded an interesting set of teams that occupy the top portion of the table. Going into this season’s tournament, one might have been rather hard pressed to estimate that teams like Atalanta, AS Monaco, Aston Villa, or Brest would be occupying the top end of the table, but such has been the case at different stages thus far this season — it’s certainly added an element of intrigue a part from what has ordinarily been group stage play typically comprised of two stronger teams and two weaker teams.

Nonetheless, for Bayern, it has been a topsy turvy campaign in Europe thus far, having already suffered defeats at the hands of Aston Villa and Barcelona, but they are still in a position to at least qualify for the knockout playoffs.

Speaking on the tournament, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen stressed the importance of Bayern making a push to the final since it is being hosted by the Allianz Arena. Getting to the final on home turf would be a massive statement from the Rekordmeister, especially if they do so and do not repeat the feat of 2012 when the lost to Chelsea there. “It must be our aim to be in the Champions League final in our stadium. And this time we won’t call it the final at home, but the title at home,” he said at Bayern’s annual general meeting where the club announced a record turnover of one billion euros
