Jack Grealish praises Pep Guardiola and the City squad as they progress from Champions League group
Jack Grealish has praised Pep Guardiola and the Manchester City squad as they booked their place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. A professional 3-nil win over Young Boys gave City the result they needed to clinch qualification from Group G with two games to spare.
Speaking post-game the England international was full of praise for his manager. Grealish said: “Guardiola gives us so much. In my opinion, he’s the best manager in the world. He’s shown that over the years. You can have the best manager in the world, but you also need the team and dressing room to do that.”
Jack Grealish also spoke about how much of a tight-knit group the Manchester City players are. He added: “We have a brilliant team, on the pitch and also off the pitch, we have a team that is so close. We love being with each other and we love playing with each other and that shows on the pitch.”
Grealish put in another quality performance against Young Boys. He picked up an assist with a delightful ball to Phil Foden to set up City’s second goal just before half-time. The goal gave City a deserved two-goal lead at the half, with the game sealed soon after the break with an Erling Haaland rocket putting the game to bed.
Despite there being strong competition between the City players for spots in Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven the tightness of the playing group is also a feature. The team celebrates each other’s achievements as one and tackles and blocks in defence are celebrated like goals.
It is another underestimated asset of the treble winner’s squad. It has formed a big part of their unparalleled success in recent years.
