‘It’s really tough’ – why Harry Maguire sympathises with Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim

Man United centre-back Harry Maguire has highlighted the importance of time on the training ground after Thursday’s 2-0 defeat to Wolves.

Harry Maguire sympathised with Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff following Boxing Day’s 2-0 defeat to Wolves at Molineux.

United, who had Bruno Fernandes sent off immediately after half-time, were condemned to a third straight defeat in all competitions via second half goals from Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan.

The defeat, coupled with results elsewhere, means United now find themselves 14th in the Premier League table – closer to the relegation zone points-wise than they are the coveted Champions League qualification places.

The clash with Wolves marked United’s eighth game of a hectic December schedule, meaning time on the training pitch at Carrington has been minimal ever since Amorim succeeded Erik ten Hag last month. And Maguire believes that has contributed to their underwhelming form.

Maguire, speaking to MUTV, said: “I think it is really tough for the manager and his team coming in because it’s not like he has come in with a similar style to the old manager; they are the opposite of what they demand and what they want.

“It is probably tough for them because they know they want to work with the team on the training pitch and improve things, such as the defending principles and the set-play principles.
