“It Won’t Happen” | ITK Rules Out Defender Move
West Ham United have ruled out a potential move for former Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels.
Hummels, 35, is a free agent following his exit from Dortmund earlier this summer.
The Hammers have been active in the transfer market this summer, bolstering their squad with a number of new signings. However, the club have decided against pursuing a deal for the experienced German centre-back.
Manager Julen Lopetegui appears to be prioritising younger, more mobile defenders as he looks to implement a new style of play at West Ham. Hummels, while undoubtedly a talented player, does not fit the profile the club is seeking at this time.
On a reported £140,000-a-week at Dortmund, Hummels will likely be looking for a similar wage at his new club in what will surely be the final major deal of his career.
With the transfer window drawing to a close, West Ham will continue to explore other defensive options as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
