INTER SIGN DOCUMENTS TO PURSUE NEW STADIUM WITHOUT MILAN

March 1, 2023

Inter and Milan are reportedly ready to abandon Populous ‘Cathedral’ project and the former have already decided where to build their new stadium.

The two Milanese clubs initially planned to work together to demolish the existing Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the San Siro area of the city in order to make space for the new ‘Cathedral’ project, drawn up by international stadium experts Populous.

The red tape of Italian bureaucracy plagued the project almost from inception and a rift has formed between the two clubs, who are now planning to work on their new stadiums individually.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter have decided to try and build their new stadium in the south-west area of the Milan metropolitan zone, in a town on the outskirts of the city called Assago.

Club president Steven Zhang has already signed the preliminary documents with the owners of the private land where the new stadium could be built, allowing them to start drawing up concrete plans.

Milan, for their part, are aiming to pursue a new home in the La Maura area of the city, keen to create their own home.
