Inter Issues Way Deeper that Refereeing Controversies
Inter blamed the referee for their loss against Juventus, but their problems have gone beyond that this season, especially in recent weeks. Considering Roma and Milan’s missteps, a win would have significantly boosted their Champions League hopes. The Nerazzurri barely created any clear-cut chance Sunday and had just three attempts on goal.
As Sportmediset points out, the attack has been sputtering for a while now. Lautaro Martinez carried it in 2023 but has scored once in five games. His teammates barely helped him out. Alternating Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko hasn’t been as beneficial as the coaching staff perhaps hoped.
The ex-Roma veteran last hit the net on January 18th in the Supercoppa. The Belgian star has been just a smidge more productive, finding the target against Porto and Udinese. However, despite being healthy, he’s been distant from the dominant player he was in his first Inter spell. Joaquin Correa has been highly disappointing this season amid a few injuries.
The Nerazzurri have been defeated nine times already in Serie A, once every three games. While Giuseppe Marotta often shielded Simone Inzaghi publicly, the two aren’t on great terms behind the scenes, TuttoSport informs. The CEO had subtle criticism toward the gaffer. In addition, the manager believes the exec is undermining him by fueling the rumors about Antonio Conte’s return.
Our Take on Inter
The goal should have probably been waved off, but the loss against Juventus was entirely deserved. The race to make the top four isn’t super fierce, and they might make it despite their woes. However, things seem to be splintering within the club, and an off-season coaching change no longer looks realistic.
