‘I DON’T SEE MYSELF ANYWHERE ELSE’ – ERIC ROY CONFIRMS BREST STAY

May 24, 2024

Stade Brestois may have guaranteed their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League with their podium finish in Ligue 1 last season, however, there may still be departures at the club, even if it looks unlikely that Eric Roy will be one of them, as he told RMC Sport talkshow Rothen S’enflamme.

Sporting director Grégory Lorenzi is heavily tipped with a departure. RC Lens, Stade Rennais and OGC Nice are all in the market for a sporting director and all have been linked with a move for Lorenzi. It would be a blow for Brest to lose Lorenzi, who in his eight years at the club, has taken Les Ty Zéfs higher than anyone would have imagined.

Pierre Lees-Melou has also been linked with a move, although his injury, which could see him miss three months of action, may complicate any potential departure. Having stayed at the Stade Francis Le-Blé amidst significant interest in January, Lilian Brassier may also leave the club. AS Monaco remain interested in the Frenchman.

“I still have one year left on my contract and I don’t see myself anywhere else than at Brest,” said Roy, who after taking over the club 18 months ago, guided the club to safety before then leading them to the Champions League. That feat saw him awarded the UNFP Ligue 1 Manager of the Season award, as well as the Get French Football News Manager of the Season award.
