Harry Kane makes North London Derby prediction after being teased by Thierry Henry

September 22, 2023

Harry Kane left Tottenham for Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, but remains keenly interested in the fortunes of his former club ahead of Sunday’s trip to Arsenal

Harry Kane has insisted former club Tottenham will win Sunday’s North London Derby against Arsenal.

Kane became a hero at Spurs after breaking into their first team in 2013, going on to become the club’s all-time record goalscorer. The England captain played against the Gunners 19 times for Spurs, winning seven, losing seven and drawing five of those encounters.

He left for Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, leaving him with the role of merely an interested onlooker for the next North London Derby clash. But he has clearly been watching Spurs closely this season and has been impressed with the job new boss Ange Postecoglou has done at the club.

Their form in the first five games of the season has now led Kane to throw his backing behind them for the derby this weekend. But his prediction only came after some light-hearted teasing from Gunners legend Thierry Henry following Bayern’s win over Manchester United.

“Harry, I wanted to tell you something, you look good in red and white. Sorry, I had to say it,” Henrysaid on CBS Sports. “Since you’re wearing red and white, you know what’s happening at the weekend, I know you know, don’t pretend that you don’t. You do. Who’s going to win?”

Kane, wearing a white and red Bayern shirt, replied: “Of course Tottenham. They’ve started the season well so it should be a great game. I’ll give you a text afterwards.” Henry agreed to a conversation after the derby, saying: “Ok, let’s talk, we’ll see.”

Spurs remain unbeaten in the Premier League this season, winning four and drawing one of their opening five games. They secured a dramatic win over Sheffield United on Saturday, with stars such as Heung-Min Son, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski stepping in to fill Kane’s shoes.

Confidence is high at Spurs ahead of their biggest game of the season so far. And like Kane, his successor as captain Son also believes Spurs can secure their first North London Derby win since May 2022.

“I know what it means for the club and the fans and players as well,” Son said. “We should understand what kind of game it is. It’s going to be a really difficult game but they won’t want to face us at this time.

“We just have to give it everything we have and it will be in a difficult game for both sides. But we’re looking forward to this game because it’s the right time to play against them. We’ll have a good game.”

“Look, we had a tough year of away games, it was tough to take. Winning is never free. You go there, you won’t get three points for free. We wish we could get them for free, go there, get three points and come back. It sounds easy but it’s never like that. We have to work hard, we’re working hard in the week.

“The players are ready and looking forward to it, so I’m pretty sure they don’t want to face us at this moment. I guarantee we’re going to give everything. The result, I can’t promise you but one thing I can guarantee is that we’re going to give everything for this club, especially on Sunday.”
