Harry Kane admits his German is not improving but hopes he will “be there for many years” to continue his German practice

Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane was one of the players honored by the Ballon D’or ceremony, as he shared the Gerd Müller trophy with Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe (or would have, if the Frenchman had bothered to show up). While on stage to collect his award, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker was asked a few questions. One of them was about the area of Kane’s game he would most like to improve. Kane had this to say:

“Maybe my speed. I need to get a bit more speed,” Kane admits via @iMiaSanMia. “But I don’t know if my age is gonna help me with that.”

Yeah, we all know speed cannot be taught…right? What can be taught is the German language, but it’s not so easy to learn at 31 years of age. Therefore, when asked about whether his German is improving, the England captain had to ask for more time:

“Nein. I’m learning. I’m doing two lessons a week,” Kane amends, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “We have a good teacher there at FC Bayern. For me it’s difficult, but hopefully I’ll be there for many years and at some stage be able to talk a little German.”

It would be rather funny if Kane decided to stay in Germany for the rest of his career, not for the trophies but to finally master this slippery and difficult language. Sorry, Premier League fans fans, it looks the intrigue of figuring out “der, die, das” overpowers any emotional connection that would convince him to return to his home country.
