From Salisbury to Roma for County new boy Gwengwe

A year ago, Shaquille Gwengwe faced Salisbury in a final pre-season friendly.

The striker moved to the Exiles this summer after a prolific campaign in the Southern League with Poole Town, scoring 47 times in all competitions.

Gwengwe has shown his eye for goal in pre-season with a hat-trick against Newport City and another in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Yeovil.

Now the 25-year-old will try to impress against Champions League side Roma, who travel to Rodney Parade fresh from a chastening 4-1 defeat by Cardiff City.

“It’s amazing,” said Gwengwe. “Not too long ago I was playing step three football, and now we’re preparing to face Roma.

“We’re excited and hopefully we can give the fans something to shout about going into the season.”
