FC Bayern 0-1 Bayer Leverkusen: Player grades from DFB-Pokal defeat

December 4, 2024

FC Bayern faced Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal Round of 16 on Tuesday, and in this article I will give my player grades for Vincent Kompany’s side.

FC Bayern Munich took on the very young, very talented Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night, with the result being a win for the latter. Going down to ten men after 17 minutes, Bayern kept playing hard and created the better chances for most of the game. There were some very good performances for Die Roten, and some underwhelming ones as well. We rated each of the Bayern Munich players who took the field for this massive clash below.

Manuel Neuer: F
When he was on the field, he had some solid passing and looked very calm and eager to pass when he was on the ball. I can’t possibly give him anything other than an F though, because he earned a red card by committing a silly foul by coming out of his box and taking out Jeremie Frimpong in the 17th minute, which is not like Manuel Neuer at all. One of the greatest ever goalkeepers’ first ever red card came at a very bad time for Bayern.

Daniel Peretz: C
Daniel Peretz was subbed on in the 17th minute and somewhat thrown into the fray. It seemed like he was pretty comfortable coming on though, as he made a good save on Frimpong (32′) and a few other stops throughout the game. The downside for him, however, was that he took a bit too long on the ball a few times and only really faced one great opportunity from which he conceded a goal in the 68th minute. I don’t necessarily believe he was at fault for the goal, as it was basically a point-blank header, but if Neuer was still on the pitch, it is more than likely he could have come out to claim it.
