FC Barcelona Coach Flick Indicates Transfer Plans
FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick appeared to indicate what his club’s transfer plans are with comments he made following Tuesday’s penalties defeat to AC Milan in Baltimore.
After two wins from two against Manchester City and Real Madrid, Barca couldn’t maintain its 100% record on the US preseason friendly tour which has now come to an end.
Speaking to the press following the 4-3 defeat from the penalty spot which came after a 2-2 draw in regular time, Flick looked on the bright side and said that the tour “had been very positive”.
“We had a lot of young players, their quality is huge. Some players have improved these days. They are adapting to what we want to see,” he added.
“I know how this works. I will give my team everything I have inside,” Flick vowed moving forward.
“Barca is an incredible club and I enjoy every second working here. The reception they have given us is incredible, but I also know that if things go in another direction….
“That’s our job. We are positive and we are working on our ideas. We want the team to play from the first to the last second of the game and we are on the right track”.
Asked if the club will sign another midfielder, Flick appeared to define Barca’s transfer plans when saying: “We have several injured midfielders with great quality. When they come back we’ll be a better team and I think I’ve got enough players there.”
That’s true in how Pedri and Gavi are currently injured yet expected to be starters when they return to the fold in the autumn.
The tour has also revealed that Marc Bernal could be the perfect replacement for Sergio Busquets, with SPORT‘s Toni Juanmarti tweeting that in the La Masia graduate Barca “has a defensive pivot for a decade”.
This could mean that Barca doesn’t head to the market for one after Oriol Romeu also rejoined Girona on loan, and that goes without mentioning the signing of Dani Olmo.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Barca has reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for the Euro 2024 winner, who will provide positional rivalry to Pedri and Gavi in attacking midfield as well as anyone that fancies playing on the left wing.
