Fabian Hurzeler makes admission over 18-goal Brighton striker

July 4, 2024

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler has opened up about the conversation he had with German forward Deniz Undav.

Former St Pauli manager Fabian Hurzeler was appointed as manager of Brighton & Hove Albion and in being appointed on the South Coast has become the youngest manager in the Premier League.

The German will have a tough task to replace Roberto De Zerbi who guided the Seagulls to Europa League football as well as the FA Cup semi-final before losing on penalties to Manchester United during his 18 months in England.

Hurzeler’s job has been made harder by the fact that two key players for Brighton could well be on their way out of the AMEX Stadium in the off-season.

Hurzeler on Undav potentially leaving Brighton this summer
Undav has been at the Seagulls for just two seasons and for one of those campaigns, the German forward was out on loan at Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart.

In his 30 Bundesliga appearances for the German side, Undav scored 18 goals and provided 10 assists for the Stuttgart as they finished in the UEFA Champions League places.

Sources have told HITC that Hurzeler and the club’s top brass are keen on holding onto the German forward this summer.

Hurzeler was asked about the future of Undav, who has yet to make an impact in the Premier League for Brighton.

“I expressed my maximum appreciation to Deniz very clearly, several times,” he said. “I believe this appreciation is mutual. He knows my exact plan as I see it and plan with him.

“But I don’t know how it will ultimately turn out. The clubs have to clarify that. The fact is: he belongs to Brighton. He also deals with topics other than sports.”

Club always planned on bringing back Undav
Sources have told HITC that the plan from those at the South Coast club was always to hold onto the German.

Despite this, Hurzeler’s claims of that he doesn’t know where Undav’s future lies is a concern for Brighton as they plan on a big season and want the 27-year-old involved.
