Exit-linked player who Everton were in talks for has seen deal to join Europa League club collapse

Everton have surprisingly found themselves in a pretty agreeable situation this summer, capturing transfer targets with unprecedented ease, and reverting to their viable fallback options without a second thought.

After all, their failed efforts to acquire Jaden Philogene could’ve crushed them, having missed out on their clear top target, but yet it took Kevin Thelwell no time at all to move on.

Now, Everton’s interest in Wilfried Gnonto has been reaffirmed.

So, with this newfound transfer stance and proactivity in the market, anything can really happen, especially when buoyed by the fee that Amadou Onana’s transfer to Aston Villa promises.

And, ironically enough, it seems like things are really falling into place all over the board.

That’s at least what is being reported by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, who have confirmed that one of the Toffees’ targets is now back on the market.

After all, Everton were in talks with Martin Braithwaite before he agreed a deal with Olympiacos, all but ending their interest in the free agent.

It seemed like this was just one that got away, but not really a truly overwhelming blow for Thelwell.

However, he has been gifted a second chance at the Danish marksman, with his move to the Europa League outfit having fallen through.

The report reads: ‘The transfer of Martin Braithwaite to the Greek Olympiacos, brand new champion of the Conference League with José Luis Mendilibar, seemed like a matter of hours. However, as the journalist Fabrizio Romano said and was able to confirm Mundo Deportivo, the agreement is currently fallen.

‘The Dane, free after disassociating himself from RCD Espanyol last Monday, is considering other options, among which is the Brazilian Guild, sources of the negotiation confirmed.’

Fresh from a really standout season with Espanyol, in which he guided them back to La Liga with his 22 league goals, the 33-year-old is enjoying a career renaissance.

So, it is definitely worth Everton taking a risk on Braithwaite on a short-term deal if the finances are agreeable.

In the past, it is these kinds of mistakes that have led the club down a dark financial path.

However, to blend the youth already signed, and to be signed, with an experienced veteran who knows where the back of the net is, makes perfect sense.

This is a risk worth taking, and would bolster a precarious-looking striker ranks as rumours persist that Beto may leave Everton whilst Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation remains uncertain.
