European football expert reacts to Manchester United deal for Rasmus Hojlund
Manchester United unveiled new striker signing Rasmus Hojlund at Old Trafford ahead of the friendly against Lens.
The £64 million move for the young forward is a big commitment from the Red Devils, who are pinning hopes on the Dane to develop into a top star.
All eyes are on Hojlund to see how he will fare, once he recovers from a minor injury which will keep him out of the opening weeks of the season.
Hojlund has been welcomed to the club already by United’s stars, along with the fans who welcomed him at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Rasmus Hojlund ‘fascinating transfer’
Rasmus Hojlund will have a lot of support from Manchester United’s creative players and he should benefit from working under Erik ten Hag.
European football expert Julien Laurens wrote on Twitter that he is intrigued by the deal as he rates the youngster highly.
He said: “Højlund to United is such a fascinating transfer. A 1m91 striker good technically and who runs the 100m in less than 11 seconds (as Gasperini said last season) is pretty special!
“He is expensive but has so much to offer. Can’t wait to see how he does in this team and in the PL.”
Erik ten Hag has explained what Hojlund will bring
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag spoke about Hojlund’s direct style of play offering the team a bigger goalscoring threat.
He told club media: “He is really a front man, very direct to the goal. A very good presser, a physical presence and I think in the balance of this squad we needed that.
“Alongside Rashford, another player who is direct and can score goals and that is all in his mind – he wants to score goals.”
Hojlund may feel a little pressure early on, to score, and start repaying his price tag, but he also seems very confident, and the goals should come naturally.
The time to judge Hojlund will be in three years time and not three weeks. He has all the tools at his disposal to become a top star, and hopefully Ten Hag’s United are now a club where he can blossom.
