Edu backed to make double January transfer swoop that can push Arsenal to Premier League title

October 12, 2023

Arsenal have been backed to make a sensational double transfer swoop in January that could help them win the Premier League title. The Gunners fought until the end against Manchester City in last season’s race to be crowned champions, however they were ultimately undone by Pep Guardiola’s winning machine with his team completing the treble after their third consecutive league victory.

Over the summer, Mikel Arteta and Edu strengthened in key areas by welcoming Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya to the club. The importance of those signings has since been reflected in the first eight games of the Premier League campaign with Arsenal unbeaten and second in the table, only below north London rivals Tottenham on goals scored.

The Gunners headed into the international break with the perfect result after Gabriel Martinelli’s deflected effort saw Arsenal come away with three points against Man City. After picking up an injury in the Champions League earlier in the week, Arsenal had to do without Bukayo Saka but Arteta was able to welcome back Martinelli who had missed the previous month.

Getting Saka back fit for the London derby against Chelsea on Saturday, October 21 will be vital for Arsenal. In the meantime, keeping the likes of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Rice fit will also be crucial considering how the trio nullified Erling Haaland at Emirates Stadium last weekend.

While injuries could affect title aspirations, strengthening in the necessary areas during the winter window can lessen that impact with former Arsenal man Kevin Campbell giving Edu and Arteta two names they must sign if they want to win the title amid links to Napoli star Victor Osimhen. “You can get Ivan Toney and [Pedro] Neto for virtually the money you are going to spend on Osimhen,” said Campbell on Curtis Shaw TV, via HITC.

“Osimhen. Quality player that he is. Top-class. He has never played in the Premier League. Will he just automatically just transition to the Premier League? We don’t know. Two players that we know can come in and hit the ground running are Toney and Neto. £60 million. You take Toney all day long. £80 million. If someone says pay that and you win the title, then you pay it, don’t you?!

“You get Neto as well. You solve the problem of the Saka dilemma. And Martinelli because Neto can play on that side as well. But Toney is the key. He offers that big and strong striker, who can cause Man City problems. We have seen him cause Liverpool problems.”

Brentford’s Toney will not be allowed to play until mid-January as he serves a significant ban for betting breaches, but he has still been linked with moves to Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool. Neto meanwhile, has enjoyed a career resurgence this season and is seen as the perfect back-up option to Saka amid his growing concerns of his injury issues.
