Di Marzio says Milan are ‘working with the lights off’ in hunt for new striker
Transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has suggested that AC Milan are working very secretively when it comes to their hunt for a new striker this summer.
Di Marzio explained that he thinks Milan are working actively to try and get deals done early in the summer, but he is in the dark as to which specific players the club is pushing ahead with.
Milan have been linked with an incredible number of young strikers over the past few weeks as everyone knows they need more depth behind Olivier Giroud and someone who can be an eventual replacement.
On the strategy that Milan are taking, Di Marzio said: “I think Milan are moving but I don’t know the name, they are a very good club working with the lights off. It’s clear that they are working on it, that the scouting department, Ricky Massara, and Paolo Maldini have sounded out the international market to then have a list of young forwards on which to then try to make the investment.”
He also made it clear that the budget will be a huge factor in what Maldini and Massara will be able to do in the market, with Champions League qualification being the key feature.
“It will also depend on the type of budget available, perhaps it will also depend on finishing in the top four, if you finish in the Champions League you certainly have a different economic breathing space. It is clear that in their database they have the right lists on which to strike and if they have started negotiations I am not yet aware of it,” he said.
