Del Piero defends Vlahovic but ‘Inter happier than Juventus’

November 27, 2023

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero feels Inter are ‘happier’ than the Bianconeri following a 1-1 draw in Turin and defends Dusan Vlahovic: ‘There is great tension…’

Juventus and Inter collected a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on Sunday.

Lautaro Martinez cancelled out a Vlahovic goal in the first half, helping Inter retain the top spot in Serie A, with two points more than their rivals.

“I think we couldn’t expect more. The first half was intense physically and in the end, Inter were happier than Juventus with the draw, but neither team had that desire to give something more,” Del Piero told Sky Sport Italia as quoted by Tuttosport. “However, they proved to be solid and title contenders.”

Inter have the most prolific attack in the league and the less-beaten defence, but Juventus are keeping their title hopes alive with a string of positive results as they are unbeaten in the last eight matches.

“Juventus are in the position they deserve,” argued Del Piero.

“Juventus and Inter have been the most consistent teams so far and have given the feeling they can go all the way. Napoli and Milan have had some problems, but they can get back in the title race. Inter are aware of being a great team and, when they want, they play well.”

Federico Chiesa provided the assist for Vlahovic and the Serbian striker silenced his critics with his goal celebration. The 23-year-old had not scored for more than two months.

“Chiesa made the difference. How many strikers are able to do so?” asked Del Piero.

“Vlahovic? I’d like to highlight that there is great tension when you play for a club like Juventus. He hadn’t scored for a while so we have to contextualise.”

Juventus will visit Monza in the next Serie A game on Friday, December 1.
