David Moyes’ latest comments suggest 26-year-old West Ham ace could be really harshly dropped for the AZ Alkmaar game

David Moyes’ latest comments suggest 26-year-old West Ham ace could be really harshly dropped for the AZ Alkmaar game.

West Ham take on AZ Alkmaar in the Europa Conference League semi-final second-leg out in Holland tonight, and David Moyes might just have a big selection dilemma on his hands.

One of those players mentioned by Moyes was Vladimir Coufal. The 30-year-old has been out injured for the past couple of weeks with a hamstring problem.

During that time, Thilo Kehrer has admirably filled in for the Czech Republic international right-back. Should Coufal be deemed as match fit for tonight’s Conference League clash with AZ Alkmaar, the German, 26, could find himself warming the bench again. And that would be extremely harsh on the former Paris Saint-Germain defender…

David Moyes has selection dilemma on his hands ahead of AZ Alkmaar vs West Ham clash

The Scot addressed the media yesterday and responded when asked about injured Hammers duo Coufal and Michail Antonio

“Micky has travelled, so has Vladimir. They are both doing well so hopefully they will both have a chance of playing. Everything else seems OK at the moment so hopefully we are in the clear.”

Now, that seems to me like the 30-year-old right-back is ready to come back into the team, having not played for the Hammers since May 3rd.

If that ends up being the case, and Kehrer is dropped down to the bench, it will be extremely harsh on the 26-year-old.

The 26-capped Germany international was immense in his last two outings for West Ham against Manchester United and AZ Alkmaar, in stark contrast to his form in the few months before those games.

Kehrer was cool, calm and collected, yet defended with real aggression and tenacity at the same time. His outstanding recovery pace is really important for us when we are pressing high up the pitch as a team as well.

The German really does deserve a sustained run in the side now as far as I’m concerned. However, you wouldn’t blame Moyes one little bit for bringing Coufal back into his starting lineup.

David Moyes has a really big call to make for the West Ham vs AZ Alkmaar clash, if Coufal is indeed fit. And the Hammers fans will be eagerly awaiting the announcement of his starting XI at 18:30 tonight.
