Crystal Palace player has seen “rapid improvement” with his injury and is now fit to play
Oliver Glasner has now received a fitness boost at Crystal Palace.
The Austrian was unable to call upon several players in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea, with Matheus Franca, Jefferson Lerma and Chadi Riad absent through injuries.
Interestingly, Rob Holding was also left out, with Oliver Glasner suggesting that something has happened internally regarding the Crystal Palace No.4 – potentially a disciplinary issue, in our view.
So, which Crystal Palace player has now made a swift comeback? Let’s take a look…
Crystal Palace No.8 Jefferson Lerma now fit to play
Jefferson Lerma has now made a “rapid improvement” in his recovery from a toe injury and will play for Colombia in the current international break – according to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra.
The Crystal Palace No.8 missed Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea after damaging a tendon in his toe.
Now – however – Lerma has been given permission by Crystal Palace to link up with Colombia for World Cup qualifying clashes against Peru and Argentina.
Sierra adds that the South American midfielder flew from London to Barranquilla on Tuesday, and will take part in training with Colombia on Wednesday.
Colombia international clearly determined to help his nation
Ideally, Lerma would sit out of this international break – like Adam Wharton has done after withdrawing from the England U21 side due to groin issues – and focus on getting back to 100% fitness.
However, the 29-year-old would be missing two crucial World Cup qualifiers, a prospect he seemingly had no intention of letting become a reality.
In regards to Wharton, the £22m man already has one England cap, and will presumably not be as willing to risk his fitness for a couple of UEFA Euro U21 qualifying matches, which, in truth, pales in comparison when it comes to the World Cup.
Hopefully, Lerma’s time away with Colombia sees him gain match fitness, rather than suffer any injury setbacks.
