Cristiano Ronaldo risks Real Madrid wrath as businessman attempts to broker Europe deal

May 23, 2023

Cristiano Ronaldo may have upset his former club Real Madrid amid reports the Portuguese star could return to Europe.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s young son has been spotted wearing a Barcelona shirt in a social post that could risk the wrath of Real Madrid fans as he reportedly eyes a return to Europe. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, currently contracted to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, may have risked a backlash from his former fanbase after an image emerged of his five-year-old boy Mateo wearing the Blaugrana’s colours.

Ronaldo was not present in the image uploaded to Instagram as his partner Georgina Rodriguez posed with their children and her colleagues. The Spanish model, 29, posted the snap of herself with her three children Mateo, Alana and Eva as she prepared for a photoshoot.

And in the image, it appeared their son Mateo – with dyed blue hair – could be seen wearing this year’s home shirt of Madrid’s Clasico rivals.

It is certainly not the first time one of Ronaldo’s children has shown their support for Barcelona. His son, Cristiano Jr, is a huge Lionel Messi fan and at a previous Ballon d’Or event, the Portuguese took him to meet his hero as the World Cup winner embraced the youngster.

It seems Rodriguez obviously saw no issue in dressing her son in the kit of his choosing. However, in the eyes of Madrid’s fans, wearing the colours of Ronaldo’s former foes Barcelona could exacerbate his relationship with the Spanish giants’ fanbase.

Perhaps Rodriguez anticipated that, as further along in the series of photos posted she changed his outfit and dressed the youngster in a recent Madrid away shirt to establish where the Ronaldo family’s loyalty lies.

Ronaldo has already been linked with a move back to Europe just six months after securing a mammoth £170million-a-year contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr and he was reportedly desperate to return to the La Liga giants, where he spent nine years between 2009 and 2018. However, no offer has materialised yet for the Portugal international.

The 38-year-old has made light work of his debut campaign in the Middle East, scoring 13 goals for the Pro League outfit, and a German businessman is planning to lure him back to Europe by funding a mooted deal for Bayern Munich to sign the veteran.

Businessman Markus Schon has clamed he is willing to finance a mega transfer to the Allianz Arena if he can take a large share of his shirt sales as collateral.

“It would be conceivable that we could undertake to pay a transfer fee or loan fee in excess of a basic amount to be defined if our company is clearly seen as ‘facilitating’ the difference,” Schon wrote in Munich-based newspaper Abendzeitung.

“In the event of a permanent commitment, we would expect a share in the proceeds from the jersey in order to limit our financial risk.”

However, Bayern chief Oliver Kahn ruled out offering a contract to Ronaldo when he left Manchester United in November, saying that Ronaldo “doesn’t fit into our idea”, and it appears unlikely that he will change his mind.

That would leave Madrid and PSG as the only realistic options in terms of clubs able to afford his massive salary, but those bridges may have already been burned after leaving Los Blancos five years ago.
