Como enter the race to sign Bologna’s Jhon Lucumí

Juventus have more reported company when it comes to the race to sign the Colombian central defender.

As one of the clubs rumored to be interested in Juventus transfer target and Bologna center back Jhon Lucumí look elsewhere to bring in a new player at the back, another Serie A club with Champions League football on the schedule this coming fall appears to have entered the fray.

One with deep pockets wanting to strengthen their squad, too.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Monday, Como have entered the race to sign Lucumí, who looks increasingly likely to leave Bologna at some point over the next month. That comes after Serie A champions Inter Milan have been linked to Lucumí, but with Beppe Marotta set to bring in former Manchester City center back John Stones on a free and them chasing Tottenham captain Cristian Romero — which, honestly, would be a perfect marriage between two very unlikable forces — it might be hard to see them going after a third center back this summer unless somebody sudden leaves San Siro in the next week or two.

So, on top of interest from Turkiye and potentially the Premier League, Juventus now have a domestic rival who liklely has more immediate funds available to spend for a player who has been long linked to the Bianconeri this summer both before and now after his release clause expired.

Now, this could. very well be Como both thinking of a backup option in their chase to sign Chelsea center back Trevoh Chalobah. Or it could be Como’s way of trying to put some pressure on Chelsea considering the negotiations for Chalobah has been going on for much of the last month or so. Como are still reportedly trying to bring in Chalobah despite this new reported interest in Lucumí, with SportItalia’s Alfredo Pedulla saying that talks are still open between the two players.

But, at some point, if Juventus do want to bring in Lucumí, it needs to get done. The longer they put a potential move, the more they run the risk of somebody swooping in, signing a central defender they’ve been talked about as one of the main suitors for months now. And if that does happen, then there’s only a limited amount of time to actually get another player in.
