Champions League winner offered to Chelsea, he’s available on a free
The January window has only been shut for less than a fortnight and yet, Chelsea and other clubs are being offered potential signings ahead of the summer market.
January came and went for Chelsea, with the club unable to make any new signings in defence or midfield despite interest in French wonderkid Jeremy Jacquet and a loan for new Aston Villa signing Douglas Luiz.
Liam Rosenior’s side remains intact however, not losing any big players. The futures of Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi were sorted out, while the club have brought Mamadou Sarr back to Stamford Bridge.
But judging by last summer, Chelsea will be far more active come the summer. Nearly £300m was spent on 10 new players before the start of this season and now, a Champions League winner could be signed.
Bayern Munich midfielder offered to Chelsea
More depth in central midfield is likely to be a priority for Chelsea and Rosenior. Reece James has been largely preferred at right-back during Rosenior’s stint, and only when the England ace is fit and available.
Enzo Fernandez has been used in a new role, largely in the left pocket. That leaves Chelsea with just Moises Caicedo and Andrey Santos in midfield and obviously, the Blues require more depth than that.
Especially, with European qualification looking possible – especially after Liverpool’s loss to Man City. New names get linked with Chelsea every week, and TeamTalk say Leon Goretzka has been offered to Chelsea.
Indeed, the report claims that 67-time Germany star Goretzka has been proposed as a possible signing for the Blues this summer on a free transfer. The Champions League winner’s contract ends in June.
Chelsea not the only ones to be offered Leon Goretzka
Goretzka is obviously a top player but now 31, his game time has plummeted under Vincent Kompany. Nevertheless, the attacking midfielder boasts stats of 95 goals and assists in 292 Bayern appearances.
A Champions League winner, Goretzka has also played a part in Bayern winning six Bundesliga titles. A move to England is a possibility with his contract winding down, and Chelsea aren’t the only ones linked.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Newcastle and both Manchester clubs have also been offered Goretzka’s services ahead of the summer window. Chelsea rarely sign a player that is above the age of 26 or 27.
But, with depth required in midfield and interest in a player like Luiz a few weeks ago, perhaps there is a belief that some experience is required. Goretzka though, many would argue, is now past his peak.
