Celtic’s Daizen Maeda scoops Premiership Player of the Year

May 16, 2025

Daizen Maeda has been crowned the Scottish Premiership’s Player of the Year.

The Celtic forward has been in scintillating form and has 33 goals and 12 assists in all competitions with one league game against St Mirren to play followed by the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen.

Previously used mostly in wide areas, Maeda has helped the Hoops get over the blow of losing countryman Kyogo in January by moving to centre forward and continuing to be a sensation.

That form means he has scooped the William Hill Premiership Player of the Year award, confirmed this morning by the SPFL.

It comes in the wake of Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers being crowned Manager of the Year.

Maeda has already been recognised by being voted PFA Scotland’s Player of the Year, voted for by fellow players, and is also in the running for the Scottish Football Writers’ award, which will be announced soon.
