Bundesliga news: Mahmoud Dahoud to leave Borussia Dortmund on free transfer
Borussia Dortmund’s Mahmoud Dahoud will be departing the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, according to sporting director Sebastian Kehl.
The midfielder, who has been plagued by shoulder injuries for much of the last year, has been limited to just six appearances in all competitions this season.
In an interview with BILD, Kehl spoke openly about the decision, and stated: “I had a very honest conversation with Mo last week. I told him that we will not be extending his contract in the summer.
“Mo has been with us for six years now, he is a very good footballer, and I really have a very high opinion of him, both in sporting terms and as a person. Nevertheless, we have decided to take this step.”
Dahoud, who joined Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2017, has made 137 appearances for the club. The 27-year-old will now be seeking a new club, with many expecting his quality to attract plenty of interest.
The decision to let Dahoud leave the club on a free transfer is an interesting one, and one that will likely spark plenty of debate in the coming weeks.
But as Kehl said, “We have decided to take this step.” And now, the ball is in Dahoud’s court to find a new club and continue his footballing journey.
