Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus sidelined by “flu-like illness”
Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus will likely miss the clubs clash with Schalke due to illness.
In what has been an unfortunate uptick in unavailable players for Borussia Dortmund as of their most recent games, club captain and Germany international Marco Reus has been added to the list of players set to miss game time due to injury or illness. Earlier this week the club were forced to take off Julian Brandt in the opening minutes of the club’s clash with Chelsea in the Champions League, and now the club will be forced to weather the Revierderby without Reus due to a “flu like illness”
Reus’ most recent omission means that Dortmund will take on Schalke with a much thinner squad; a not so easy task considering Schalke are one of the leagues in form teams at this time. This only adds to the fact that games against Schalke are always tense affairs, with previous encounters having had a direct effect on Die Schwarzgelben’s potential for silverware in season’s past.
And yet, despite the trickiness of the task ahead, Dortmund’s clash with Schalke is indeed a must win game for the Black and Yellows. Reus has been in overall strong form for his side as of late, but the team will have to make do without him.
Dortmund will be looking to get a result that will hopefully keep them on track in the league. A strong showing will show that the squad have put the loss to Chelsea behind them and that the result has not de-railed the club’s momentum and level of focus on their objectives for the season. Reus, for his part, will hopefully feel better soon and put in a run of strong performances to help further those objectives.
