Borussia Dortmund Have Little Money to Spend on Transfers
According to Bild, Borussia Dortmund have very little money to spend heading into the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.
It is reported that Dortmund only have €8.5m to spend on any new signings they wish to bring in. The reason for this is despite the €103m fee for Jude Bellingham, only about 60-65% of the money recieved will be reinvested into the squad.
The signings of Felix Nmecha (€30m) and Marcel Sabitzer (€20m) this summer as well as the signings of Julien Ryerson (€5m) and Julien Duranville (8.5m) in January means that there is very little money left for the club to spend.
This means that Dortmund’s search for a striker will likely mean that they will have to search for a cheap option to play backup to Sébastien Haller. Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta has been linked with the club and this is likely the route Dortmund will have to go down.
Dortmund’s lack of money will also explain their pursuit of Armel Bella-Kotchap. The club prefer a loan deal for the 21-year-old central defender instead of paying the €20m wanted by Southampton and Dortmund’s frugalness will now mean they could be beaten to the signing by Bayern Munich who have also begun to show interest in Bella-Kotchap.
