Bologna join Connor Barron transfer race as Aberdeen ace sees Champions League door open

May 14, 2024

The Italian side have had scouts at a number of Aberdeen’s recent games and are weighing up a move for the midfielder who is out of contract at the end of the season

Bologna are the latest Italian club to express interest in Aberdeen’s Connor Barron, joining Cagliari and Sassuolo.

The Serie A side, who previously signed Lewis Ferguson from the Dons, have been scouting Barron at several recent matches, including Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic.

With Barron’s contract set to expire at season’s end, he could be acquired for a training compensation fee of just over £500,000.

While Cagliari and Sassuolo’s interest hinges on their top-flight survival, Bologna has received positive reports on the 21-year-old midfielder, who has played a key role in Aberdeen’s recent resurgence.

Despite rumours linking I Rossoblu manager Thiago Motta with Juventus, Bologna continues to pursue its recruitment strategy.

Having secured a spot in next season’s Champions League, Bologna aims to bolster its squad to compete across all competitions.

The club has previously found success in the Scottish market, having purchased Aaron Hickey from Hearts before selling him to Brentford for a significant profit.

Scotland’s rising star Ferguson was set to bring in significant transfer funds this summer, with interest from top-tier clubs such as Juventus, Inter and Napoli. However, an ACL injury has sidelined him for the remainder of the year and Euro 2024.
