Boehly has Chelsea plan for Egyptian star recommended to Klopp at Liverpool by Salah

July 12, 2023

Chelsea are reportedly leading the Premier League charge for Egyptian winger Ibrahim Adel, who was recommended by Mohamed Salah to Liverpool last summer.

Salah has played alongside Adel for the Egypt national team and was so impressed with his displays that he requested Jurgen Klopp to make a move for the forward.

Work permit issues at the time ruled out a Liverpool move for the 22-year-old but the FA’s new regulations mean that each club can sign up to two foreign players who wouldn’t have previously met the former points threshold set by the Governing Body Endorsement criteria.

90min claim Newcastle are among those to have expressed an interest, alongside Brighton, Brentford, Aston Villa, West Ham, Burnley and Southampton, though transfer expert Graeme Bailey claims Chelsea are hoping to bring Adel to the club this summer before sending him on loan to Strasbourg, who were recently taken over by the Todd Boehly-led consortium that owns Chelsea.

Speaking to the Talking Transfers podcast, Bailey said: “We’re told on this one that Chelsea’s interest is to send him to Strasbourg as well, Ibrahim Adel, he’s a player we have spoken about before, Mo Salah recommended him to Liverpool.

“He is one of the best young players in African football. He has been for a little while, he plays for Pyramids in Egypt, Mo Salah does like him and he recommended him to Liverpool.”

Adel currently plays for Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Premier League and he was recently called up to the senior Egypt squad having won Player of the Tournament at the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

It’s claimed there is also interest from France, Spain and Germany in Adel, while transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed interest from two other European clubs over the weekend.

He tweeted: ‘Nordsjælland and Anderlecht are among clubs keen on Egyptian fwd Ibrahim Adel after his performances with Egypt U23. #transfers’

But 90min claim the Premier League is the young forward’s preferred destination.
