Birmingham City plot move for midfielder that ex-Juventus and Bayern Munich star called ‘amazing’

Birmingham City are preparing a ‘significant’ bid for Portsmouth attacking-midfielder Adrian Segecic before the summer deadline, with Pompey set to make a huge profit on the Australian star.

Birmingham are ready to make an offer for Aussie forward Segecic before the window slams shut, with Pompey prepared for a ‘significant’ bid to come their way.

Segecic, by all accounts, has been Portsmouth’s star player for the past couple of seasons, and has started this campaign brilliantly as well, with two goals in three appearances thus far, as Blues prepare to make him their new marquee capture.

Birmingham have been after another attacking-midfielder for the majority of the window, having previously held an interest in former Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt before his permanent switch to Hull City, whilst Sporting Gijon’s Cesar Gelabert has also reportedly entered their radar in recent weeks.

FLW’s Birmingham fan pundit, Jason Moore, previously shared that £5 million would be the maximum they believe the club should have paid for Gelhardt, as Blues will need to cough up a fee circa double that figure for Segecic.

Chris Davies faces a battle to keep his job in the Second City, having drawn both of their Championship games so far against Sheffield United and Bristol City, before being humbled at home 6-1 by Brentford in the League Cup, and has identified Segecic as the man to save his post.

Blues have spent well over £50 million over the past couple of years with Davies at the helm, and sooner rather than later, Tom Wagner and Tom Brady will be looking for a return on their investment.

Segecic, 22, grabbed 16 direct goal contributions (ten goals and five assists) in 38 Championship games last season for Portsmouth, in what was his first year playing in Europe following his £200k switch from Sydney FC.

The Croatian, who switched his allegiance to the European nation from Australia ahead of the 2026 World Cup, looks set to make Pompey a huge profit in just over a year at the club, with Blues preparing a bid in an attempt to lure him to St Andrews within the next week.
