Bayern Munich’s Christoph Freund sets plans for coming months, reveals who the club is talking to for extensions

March 29, 2025

Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund spoke to the media during the club’s pregame press conference ahead of the St. Pauli match and did his best to lower expectations for the summer transfer window.

When asked about bolstering the backline with a player like Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen, Freund dismissed the notion.

“No, it’s not in our considerations. We hope that Upa will be back at the end of the season or at least the beginning of next season. We’re currently well equipped and we don’t see a major need for action even for next season,” Freund said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

With so many injuries to deal with on the backline, Freund was asked about the possibility recalling Adam Aznou for this summer’s Club World Cup. The executive acknowledged that would be the case.

“We decided with Adam that he would go out on loan because he has to play. He’s now getting game time in La Liga. It’s a very important step for him. The plan is for him to come back in the summer and go to the Club World Cup. Hopefully he continues to get a lot of game time in the coming weeks,” Freund said.

Finally, Freund addressed the club’s current contract talks with existing players.

“We are in talks with Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané and Eric Dier. If there is anything to announce, we will do so,” said Freund.

We might already know how those talks went with Müller…
