Bayern Munich source confirmed dressing room’s true feelings about Harry Kane compared to Robert Lewandowski

October 20, 2024

The England captain moved to the Bundesliga giants from Spurs in 2023 while Lewandowski moved to Barcelona.

Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski are undoubtedly two of the greatest strikers of the modern era and indeed all time – but the pair have left a very different mark on the Bayern Munich dressing room.

Lewandowski netted a remarkable 344 goals in 375 games for Bayern, having joined the Allianz Arena club on a free transfer in 2014 from Borussia Dortmund, and went on to win eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in Bavaria.

The 36-year-old Poland international moved to Barcelona in the summer of 2022 for an initial €45m transfer fee and has claimed the La Liga title so far in Spain.

England captain Kane made the move to Bayern in the summer of 2023, when he had a year left to run on his contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane moved to Bayern for €100m to ensure Spurs obtained a sizable transfer fee for their talisman.

The 31-year-old’s move to another country has not impacted his goalscoring abilities, with Kane currently having found the back of the net 57 times in just 55 appearances in all competitions for Bayern.

He is yet to clinch silverware with Bayern after Bayer Leverkusen won the Bundesliga title for the first time in the club’s history under Xabi Alonso last season, ending a streak of 11 German top flight championships in a row for the Bavarians.

Both players have been important and influential figures in the Bayern camp, but it seems they have had polar opposite opinions held about themselves in the dressing room, with Kane coming off much better than Lewandowski.

As per The Athletic in a report last year, Kane’s teammates are ‘in awe’ at the England top scorer’s self-confidence and genuine humility.

Thomas Muller said: “We’re so pleased we have him in the team.

“It’s just the experience. The moves and actions he’s made over his career weren’t left behind in England. He’s shown that with the utmost brilliance since he’s worn red and white.”

Jamal Musiala added: “I expected high [standards] but not as high as he’s delivered so far, it’s even easier to play with him than I thought.

“I feel very comfortable with Harry, he plays amazing passes. I can run in behind and he’ll find me.”

Lewandowski, however, has come across very differently from his time at Bayern according to the dressing room view.

The Poland international’s attitude reportedly rubbed his teammates the wrong way and it is believed Lewandowski only cared about his own goal record rather than the team.

A source in the Bayern dressing room said: “But you always got the sense he’s [Lewandowski] doing it for himself, not the club. For Kane, it’s all about the team winning. He’s the perfect role model for everyone else with that kind of attitude.”

Both are two exceptionally talented strikers with formidable goalscoring records, but appear to be very different personalities.
