Bayern Munich set to test Barcelona resolve over €86m-rated midfield ace

April 23, 2024

It could be quite the summer for Barcelona given that they’re likely to end the season without any trophies whatsoever.

Although it’s long been believed that Xavi Hernandez will quit the club at the end of the campaign, there is a school of thought that also suggests he could be tempted to stay on as long as various transfer targets are met.

Since the coach effectively publicly handed in his notice, notwithstanding the results against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, the Catalans had not only gone unbeaten but they were also playing their best football of the season.

It’s therefore no wonder why the hierarchy at the club would be interested in doing their best to ensure that Xavi stays in situ.

That decision isn’t crystal clear yet though the smart money would surely be on him making a clean break for the reasons that he suggested in his ‘exit’ statement.

Regardless of whether he stays or goes, the club are still in financial difficulty and will find it hard to keep hold of all of their major stars if they want to bring in some new blood.

A handful of players could make the Catalan giants a pretty penny in the market, though it’s obvious that not all of them would be sold.

Bayern want Barcelona ace de Jong
If one is allowed to slip through the net, however, it will be interesting to see who the club consider surplus to their requirements.

Sky Germany go as far as to suggest that Bayern Munich have never forgotten about Frenkie de Jong despite losing out on signing him when he originally went to Barcelona for €86m.

Barca do have a plethora of midfield talent in their ranks and with Gavi to come back in time for the start of the 2024/25 campaign, the club may feel that they can cope with the loss of the Dutchman.
