Bayern Munich president confirms club’s interest in Harry Kane

July 26, 2023

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has confirmed that his club are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur centre-forward Harry Kane during this summer’s transfer window.
The speculation surrounding the England captain’s future continues to gather pace, with Bayern believed to be increasingly confident of bringing him to Allianz Arena in the current market.

Tottenham’s majority owner Joe Lewis has allegedly told chairman Daniel Levy that Kane will have to be sold this summer if he does not sign a new deal with the capital giants.

Manchester United continue to be linked with the 29-year-old, but it is still highly unlikely that Spurs will sanction a sale to a Premier League rival.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest, but Bayern are seen as the firm favourites to sign the Three Lions skipper during the current market.

Hainer has branded Kane “a highly attractive player” and said that the forward’s arrival in Munich would help the club and the Bundesliga.

“Here in the Bundesliga we don’t have many international stars any more,’ Hainer told Kicker. “Bayern always try to bring in stars. Harry Kane is a highly attractive player, the England captain and a top scorer. He would do us and the Bundesliga good.”

Bayern are already thought to have failed with two offers for Kane, with Tottenham believed to be looking for £100m for the Englishman.

Spurs are not in a strong position when it comes to the forward’s future, though, as his current deal is due to expire next June, meaning that, as it stands, he could agree a pre-contract with Bayern in January 2024.

Kane was again in strong form for Tottenham during the 2022-23 campaign, finding the back of the net on 32 occasions in all competitions, with 30 of those strikes coming in the Premier League.

Spurs finished down in eighth position in the table, though, meaning that there will be no European football at the club during the new season.

Kane is thought to have recently met with Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel to discuss a possible move to Allianz Arena before the end of the transfer window.

The centre-forward allegedly believes that he has a strong chance of winning the Champions League at Bayern, who lost star forward Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona last summer.

Amid the speculation surrounding his future, Kane remains involved for Tottenham during their pre-season, featuring in their only friendly of the summer thus far against West Ham United.
