Bayern Munich confident of Harry Kane extension, Max Eberl backs England captain for Ballon d’Or

Harry Kane continues to receive strong public backing from Bayern Munich as the club works toward extending the England captain’s stay in Bavaria. Kane’s current contract expires at the end of the season, but Bayern president Herbert Hainer has now made clear that the German record champions expect their prolific striker to remain beyond the summer.

“We want to extend with him and I also think that’s what will happen,” Hainer said, as quoted by BILD, during Bayern’s traditional Oktoberfest visit.

Hainer also pointed to Kane and his family feeling settled in Munich as one reason for optimism surrounding the negotiations. The 33-year-old himself recently struck a similarly positive tone when discussing his future, saying that things were “looking pretty good.”

A final agreement has not yet been reached, with further negotiations over the details still required. According to the report, the length of Kane’s next contract has recently formed one of the central talking points, with deals through either 2029 or 2030 under discussion. Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has likewise indicated that the process could reach its conclusion following the upcoming three-week international break.

While Bayern work to secure Kane’s long-term future, the striker also remains at the heart of another prominent debate.

Max Eberl addresses Kane’s Ballon d’Or chances
Kane’s extraordinary goalscoring output last season has placed him firmly among the leading Ballon d’Or candidates. The England international scored 73 competitive goals, but has consistently avoided openly campaigning for the individual award. That stance has stood in contrast to some of his rivals.

Barcelona attacker Lamine Yamal recently argued that the Ballon d’Or should go to “the best player in the world” rather than simply to someone who scores 80 goals, an apparent reference to Kane’s candidacy. The Bayern striker declined to respond in kind following Friday’s 7-0 Bundesliga victory over Union Berlin.

“Everyone has their opinion, everyone has their own way of expressing themselves,” Kane said. “I don’t really like talking about myself. I’d rather let my football speak for me, my actions on the pitch.”

Bayern Board Member for Sport Max Eberl was slightly less restrained.

“There has to be campaigning, of course,” Eberl said after the Union match. “The best players are the ones who don’t need a campaign.”

Kane himself has repeatedly stressed that he prefers his performances to make his case. Even when discussing the Ballon d’Or field, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker has praised the quality of his rivals rather than attempting to diminish their credentials. For Bayern, those performances have already supplied more than enough reason to pursue an extension.
