Bayern Munich CEO on having the UCL at home

Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern Munich’s CEO, recently spoke about the upcoming UEFA Champions League final, set to be held in Munich, and the emotional weight it carries for the club and its fans.

Dreesen reflected on the painful memories of the 2012 final, where Bayern suffered a heartbreaking loss at home, and shared, “It’s a big dream. We lost the Champions League final in Munich in 2012 very unfortunately. After the game, there was just silence. Many people in Munich were very sad for weeks, and the mood in the city felt eerily quiet. That’s why it’s a big dream to be there again. We need a lot of commitment, passion, and luck for that to happen.”

Despite this deep desire to win the Champions League at home, Dreesen emphasized that the main focus for Bayern this season is reclaiming the Bundesliga title. “The most important thing for the new season is the Bundesliga. The league is incredibly attractive this year because we didn’t win it last year. We want to make up for that. Anything we achieve beyond that is a welcome bonus,” he added.

While the dream of winning the Champions League on home soil remains a powerful goal, Bayern’s focus on reclaiming the Bundesliga title will clearly underscore their efforts to achieve another sextuple. As the season unfolds, both players and supporters will be driven by the memories of 2012, with hopes of creating new, triumphant ones in 2024.
