Barcelona wonderkid could miss several games between November and December – report
Lamine Yamal is quickly carving out a place for him in the Barcelona first-team setup under Xavi Hernandez.
The 16-year-old La Masia wonderkid made his senior debut towards the end of the last season, following which he made a big impression during the pre-season.
His performance in the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Tottenham Hotspur was a joy to behold, while his performance in the draw against Getafe was also noteworthy.
As such, there are chances that Yamal could be set for his first start tomorrow when Barcelona face Cadiz in La Liga.
Yamal could miss six games between Nov and Dec
It is clear that the 16-year-old is a special talent and Xavi has him in his plans for the season.
However, Barcelona might have to make do without Yamal for close to a month later this year due to international commitments.
Indeed, Mundo Deportivo is reporting that the teenage whizkid will be called up by the Spain national team for the Under-17 FIFA World Cup set to be played in Indonesia.
As such, Yamal would be unavailable for selection for the Blaugrana starting from November until December 3, provided La Rojitas make it all the way to the finals of the tournament.
The 16-year-old was a key part of the Spain Under-17 side that made it to the semi-finals of the U-17 UEFA Euros earlier this year, finishing as the joint top-scorer in the competition with four goals.
And he is certain to be called up to the squad for the U-17 FIFA World Cup in Indonesia as well.
As such, Yamal could miss the league fixtures against Real Sociedad, Deportivo Alaves, Rayo Vallecano, and Atletico Madrid, if Spain go all the way in the tournament.
Along with these matches, the 16-year-old could also be unavailable for two group matches of the UEFA Champions League as well.
